Julie Driscoll with Brian Auger and the Trinity, Indian Rope Man, released in 1969 and originally recorded by Richie Havens.
This is a fantastic cover; Brian Auger’s crazy organ playing speeds up the song quite a bit, and Julie Driscoll’s unique voice fits perfectly. Auger is a master of the Hammond, and with Julie, they were one of the few (if any) bands where the main focus was on the organ. Mixing jazz and soul with the groovy psychedelic sound in England, Streetnoise is an album that still sounds fresh today. Yet it isn’t even available on itunes, which shows how under appreciated these guys were. In my opinion, Julie was THE badass female singer in England in the late ’60s, like Grace Slick but jazzier.
Sorry for the crappy quality, I haven’t even found this on vinyl yet.
